RIO DE JANEIRO, March 28 (Reuters) - Brazil's largest oil workers federation filed a civil lawsuit against U.S. oil company Chevron and drilling firm Transocean in a federal court in Rio de Janeiro, according to documents filed with the court on Tuesday.
The lawsuit seeks the cancellation of Chevron's concession to drill and produce oil in the offshore Frade field where it spilled at least 2,400 barrels of crude last November.
The case, brought by FUP oil workers union, is the latest legal challenge in Brazil for Chevron and Transocean, which are also facing criminal charges over last year's spill.
Representatives for the union could not be immediately reached by Reuters. Officials at Chevron and Transocean had no immediate comment on the court filing.
Federal prosecutor Eduardo Santos de Oliveira brought civil and criminal charges against Chevron, the second-largest U.S. oil company, Swiss rig-operator Transocean and their employees, with the threat of jail terms and more than $11 billion in damages.
