BOGOTA, March 1 (Reuters) - Colombia has lifted a coal loading suspension on the country's second-biggest exporter of the material, Drummond Ltd, and also on a night-time ban at the main railway, the national licensing authority said on Friday.
Colombia's coal sector has been reeling from a series of problems that shut down exports from the world's fourth-largest coal exporter, and the lifting of the suspensions on the rail line and Drummond will be a relief to producers and end-users.
Luz Helena Sarmiento, general director of the National Environmental Licenses Authority known as ANLA, said that the body had reviewed Drummond's updated contingency plan and would now end a loading suspension at its port.
The ANLA suspended coal loading at Drummond's harbor on Feb. 6 after bad weather forced a coal spill into the nearby waters.
Sarmiento also said that a ban on overnight transport on Colombia's main coal railway, known as Fenoco, will be lifted.
A regional environmental body ordered Fenoco to stop running trains near populated areas between 10:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. local time so residents' sleep would not be disturbed. The company has been complying with the order since early February.
